PROTOGEN
Infusoria with Spirulina
A concentrate of different-sized dried infusoria, which were bred on nutrient earth. When revived with water, they continue to develop and act as a food source for the baby fish.
For easy feeding of the fry with live infusoria such as ciliates, paramecia, slipper animalcule, euglenoids and protozoa. PROTOGEN is a concentrate of dried infusoria of various sizes cultivated on breeding substrate that quickly come to life, develop and multiply when immersed in aquarium water. PROTOGEN Infusoria do not have to be fed, but a new batch should be started every 3-4 days.
The presence of infusoria is most easily detected during feeding, if the fry converges at the point where the liquid is dripped into the water. Optically infusoria only become visible at 25x to 50x magnification. If too much infusoria are given, a mucous film will develop on the water surface during the 3rd day. Infusoria cannot develop if the water used for starting the batch contains residues of chlorine or medicines.
Application:
- Direct application: After the fry have hatched put 6-12 grains of PROTOGEN into aquarium depending on number of baby fish. Double this amount on the second day. Feed again as required until large food is accepted.
- Preculture: Mix approx. 1 g of PROTOGEN with 1 l of aquarium water in small, shallow glass or plastic bowls at 18-25° C under good light conditions. Within 24 hours the cultures are ready for use and breed quickly if left standing for longer periods. Inject the infusorial solution with a pipette near the fish.
Important:
Put the preculture or the Protogen grains near the fish. Do not use metal receptacles for Protogen cultures.
