Sanders Brine Shrimp Company
Sanders Brine Shrimp Company is the world's oldest and largest harvester of Artemia cysts. In 1950, Cleon Sanders, who lived near the shores of the Great Salt Lake, Utah, began a modest family business packaging small quantities of brine shrimp eggs (Artemia cysts) for sale to local pet shops. Some years later, Mr. Sanders began to supply brine shrimp eggs to a large national distributor of pet supplies. Eventually, with the worldwide development and expansion of the aquaculture industry, the family business grew beyond the borders of the United States.
From its humble beginnings, Sanders Brine Shrimp Company has become the world's recognized name supplying quality Artemia cysts, larval feeds, and enrichments to countries around the world. Though the company has experienced spectacular growth in recent years, Sanders remains a family owned business. Sanders' reputation as the preeminent supplier of Artemia cysts is supported by its insistence on quality control from the time the eggs are harvested until they are shipped to the customer.
Hatching instructions:
- Prepare hatching solution from tap water using non-iodized salt or seawater. Concentration of salt can range from 15 - 30 PPT. Recommended pH 8.0 - 8.5. PH can be increased by adding sodium bicarbonate.
- Add cysts at the rate of 1 - 1.5 grams per liter of hatching solution. Apply sufficient aeration to keep cysts in suspension.
- During incubation, maintain hatching solution temperature at 25 degrees Celsius. Provide natural or artificial light.
- After hatching is complete, stop aeration and allow the hatching solution to rest for 10 minutes. Siphon nauplii into a fine mesh net. Rinse with fresh water before feeding. Hatch only as many eggs as you can use in 24 hours. After opening the can, protect from humidity!
